WHO ARE THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY?
The Friends are a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to providing enrichment, advocacy and support to the library community. They strive to increase public awareness of the Library and stimulate use of the Library's resources and services. They support efforts to expand library programs and facilities, which will enrich the lives of all Hudson residents.
WHAT DO FRIENDS DO?
Past activities have included: seasonal decorations of the library, landscaping and building improvements, assistance with Children's Summer Reading programs. Our ongoing efforts include co-sponsoring Children's photos with Santa, providing scholarships to graduating seniors, participation in community events such as Harvest Fest and Old Home Days, celebrations of National Library Week, and Library Anniversaries.
Over the years, fund-raising activities such as our monthly Second Hand Prose used book sale have enabled the Friends to increase the number of scholarships we award to graduating seniors, and to raise $25,000 for the Library building fund. We have also been able to provide the Library with some computer software, cameras and film for Santa's visit, display shelving, signage, informational flyers and advertisements, seasonal plants, patriotic bunting, and window shutters. Now that the dream of having a spacious new library is being realized through the generosity of the Rodgers brothers, we will be looking forward to lending a helping hand in the growth process in whatever way we can.

LEONARD A SMITH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Established in 2002, this scholarship honors the memory of Lenny Smith, who was one of Hudson's long time public servants and a strong library advocate. The Friends award the scholarship annually to graduating seniors who are Hudson residents. Applicants are asked to write a statement about the impact that access to libraries has had on their high school years. Forms for the 2010 Scholarship are now available. Download and print them out below, or stop by the library to pick one up in person. Applications are due by May 1, 2010.
