Adventure

Scope:  The adventure genre speaks for itself. These novels typically have plots with action and intrigue, often featuring battles and conflicts where the good guys ultimately win over the bad guys. Ever since James Bond arrived on the scene as the dashing secret agent 007, the spy espionage theme has become very popular. The setting is often exotic, typically a foreign country, and the protagonist is freelance or employed by a government intelligence agency.  Contemporary novelists Vince Flynn, John Le Carre, Jeffrey Archer, Robert Ludlum, and David L. Lindsey are prime examples of this genre.

There are several other themes and types that fall under the category of adventure. These include technothrillers, biothrillers, financial and political intrigue, and terrorism.

The survival theme is strong in the adventure genre and becomes the basis for existence. As a result of the winning combination of sheer will and determination, the heroes of these tales survive.  Disaster thrillers including natural disasters is included under this category.

The last subset or theme under the adventure category are novels of military and naval adventure.
